Convention Update
Update from the Co-chairs, Ulla Bunz & Nanette Hogg
Dear Human Communication and Technology Division members:
We hope this message finds you well into preparation for the fall semester as well as the NCA San Diego conference. The Division's Co-Vice Chairs, Rodney Marshall & Shannon Van Horn have put together a terrific group of panels and competitive paper sessions. The Division rated high in the number of submissions: We had 19 panels submitted, of which 9 were accepted. We had 130 papers submitted, of which 68 were accepted into panels and Scholar To Scholar papers. Please support the 20 panels at the 2008 San Diego conference since attendance is so important for next year's allocations. Overall, the acceptance rate will be close to 50%. A special thanks goes out to the 62 reviewers for their energy and efforts, especially in such a timely manner.
We would like extend a special invitation to everyone to attend the:
Human Communication and Technology Business Meeting
Friday, Nov 21 - 3:30pm - 4:45pm
Manchester Grand Hyatt, Elizabeth D
The business meeting is a great way to get involved in one of the largest divisions with in NCA. HCTD has a strong foundation due to the efforts of Karen Krupar, Clark Germann, Mary Mandeville, Frank Dance, and Dennis Wingall. HCTD has remained strong because of the past volunteers. The future of the Division's strength and growth depends somewhat on attendance at the business meeting and elections of new officers. As you may recall per the changes in the by-laws last November, a new Secretary will serve a two-year term and a new Student Representative will be elected. A new Vice-Chair Elect will serve one-year and then succeed to the next office, Vice Chair. Visit the HCTD By-Laws page for additional information.
The business meeting is not only a time for electing officers and thanking people for exemplary service, we also award the top student paper with a cash reward and network with friends and colleagues. The annual business meeting updates our members about key NCA issues and allows time to discuss important decisions about the workings of our division. Please attend the business meeting on Friday and offer nominations for an office—self-nominations are always welcome and even encouraged.
We also promote support for the Division's top papers. The schedules for these presentations are:
Top Papers Panel: UnCONVENTIONal Human Communication and Technology Research

Building/Room: Manchester Grand Hyatt, Elizabeth D
Top Student Papers Panel: UnCONVENTIONal Uses of Technology

Until we see you in San Diego, please enjoy the reminder of summer and the beginning of the fall semester.
